For this short I practised with concepts I hope to expand on in my final film. I set the camera up in a dimly lit area so the grain on the camera would be visible. i chose to do this to incorporate theories of haptic visuality. This also involves my research question about where the line between the audience and the character is, i’m hoping that viewers will have to squint to see details. In regards to how this relates to my final film I wanted this test footage to show some elements I hope to incorporate into the final project, the overlaying of characters to show recursive actions or linear time breaking down. When the character approaches the camera at the end I intended for that to break the routine that the viewer expects and pull them into the action. This idea comes from my intrest in works that allege to be Haunted (films like pulse, the Ring, paranormal activity where the viewer is implicated as the next victim, a campfire tales twist ) this was signified with the use of the flashlight and switching the cameras infrared on and off, breaking the forth wall by making the audience aware of the camera and it’s functions more-so than the grain. on a technical level I was interested in how the light affected the infrared. it would flare when the filter was switched on, this is why i slowed down the footage. I also chose not to record sound, originally i had placed a royalty free scream slowed down to 10% so it created a long digitally strained sound to match the grain in the visuals but i decided against it as it felt intrusive and i feel the uncanny works better without the sound
